Synopsis

Ready to expose his miraculous deeds as mere trickery, Rev. Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) invites a documentary crew to film his final exorcism. But when the devil actually possesses a girl's body, Marcus must regain his faith and engage in the fight of his life. Produced by Eli Roth and directed by Daniel Stamm, this frighteningly realistic horror movie also stars Ashley Bell, Iris Bahr and Louis Herthum.

Personal Thoughts

About 15 minutes into it, I was already developing a bit of a love hate relationship with this movie. I liked the idea of an exorcist type film being done in the format of a mockumentary, but wasn't too fond of the acting (Patrick Fabian's acting in particular). As the movie progressed, I found myself loosening up, and enjoying it more. It stood out to me as being different from most of the other exorcism movies I'd seen. It kind of felt like Paranormal Activity meets the Exorcist, meets Rosemary's Baby.

The movie had its dark creepy moments ... some too frightening for my wife to sit through. She ended up having to frequently cover her eyes, or look away altogether. In all, this was disturbing tale of a young girl being possessed by some form of a demonic entity.

Though I gave this movie a 3.5, I would have given it a 4.0 (maybe even higher) if I had to base the grade solely on how scary I thought it was.
